State Senator Gene Yaw announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) is now accepting applications for grants funded by Act 13 natural gas drilling impact fees. The grants are aimed at supporting projects such as flood mitigation, watershed restoration, improvement, and recreation.
Senator Yaw highlighted the impact of the natural gas impact fee dollars on communities in his Senate District, stating, "Counties and municipalities across my Senate District have seen the benefits of natural gas impact fee dollars in their communities. The fee has generated more than $2 billion in tax revenue to support state and local projects, and this figure does not include the millions directed back through the state’s Marcellus Legacy Fund."
The Marcellus Legacy Fund, established by Act 13 of 2012, distributes unconventional gas well impact fees to counties, municipalities, and commonwealth agencies. A portion of the fee revenue is allocated to the CFA for statewide initiatives, including projects like abandoned mine drainage abatement, sewage treatment, and watershed restoration.
Senator Yaw encouraged eligible entities in the 23rd District to apply for the funding, emphasizing the importance of the Marcellus Legacy Fund in supporting local environmental enhancement and conservation programs. He urged interested applicants to submit their applications before the deadline on May 31, and those with questions can contact the designated phone number for assistance.
