State Representative Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) has announced that 16 fire and emergency medical service (EMS) companies in the 83rd District have been awarded over $220,000 in grant funding. The grants will support various projects and programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of these first responders.

"I'm grateful to see this state funding being awarded to our local fire and EMS personnel teams," said Flick. "First responders are a valuable resource to our communities, and these grant dollars will continue their mission to protect our families."

The organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards are as follows:

The funding will be used for a variety of purposes, including facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. In addition, fire companies were allowed to apply for construction savings accounts for new facility construction.

It is important to note that the ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly and is not funded by General Fund tax revenue but rather by slot machine gaming proceeds. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.

These grants serve as a testament to the commitment of the state government to support and invest in the safety and well-being of the communities in the 83rd District. Representative Flick's efforts in securing this funding highlight his dedication to ensuring that first responders have the resources they need to carry out their vital work.
